The Challenge
As a premium creative production agency with over 18 years of global expertise, Seagram Pearce Media (SPM) sought to prove that its technical precision transcends industry categories. The objective was a high-concept promotional project to position the agency as a leader in cinematic character portraiture. The core problem was executing a “Jedi” themed series that avoided the common pitfalls of generic fan photography. The brief required movie-poster-grade assets that felt authentic to the Star Wars universe while remaining 99% in-camera. This meant rejecting heavy CGI in favor of complex lighting physics, practical atmospheric effects, and high-fidelity textures. To add human complexity, the agency managed a public casting call to transform everyday enthusiasts into battle-worn, emotionally resonant characters within a controlled studio environment. The project needed to showcase that SPM can take full creative lead on complex productions, regardless of the subject matter or market bracket.

Strategic Approach
Seagram Pearce Media moved beyond “costume photography” by building a strategy rooted in narrative-driven portraiture. The approach leaned into our core philosophy: Lighting is the primary storyteller. We developed a visual language based on character standing, utilizing color theory to denote moral alignment. We used specific hues to signal a relationship with the Light or Dark side of the Force through precise color combinations.
The partnership with the cast was extensive. We provided movie-correct robes and props, and subjects were invited to integrate personal elements like belts and accessories. Our creative team then styled these items to ensure each character felt like a lived-in “hero” rather than a staged model. This initiative elevated the project from a technical exercise to a world-building endeavor. It successfully demonstrated SPM’s ability to handle full-scale creative production from casting and wardrobe to the final retouched frame.

Creative Execution
Execution took place over an intensive one-day shoot at a controlled studio facility to ensure absolute mastery over the light. To achieve the signature “glow” of a lightsaber, we rejected the industry standard of adding effects in post-production. Instead, we utilized practical fluorescent tubes as the primary light source. These tubes acted as “hero” blades to create authentic, high-contrast reflections in the subjects’ eyes and cast accurate light spill across the fabric of the Jedi robes.
To supplement the glow of the blades, we employed lighting that felt invisible. For dark characters, the studio was bathed in deep crimson tones to ensure the practical blade light and ambient fill were physically cohesive. Atmosphere was managed via a standard haze machine. By strategically backlighting the smoke with complementary gels, we created depth and separation without needing digital backgrounds. Captured on a Nikon D850 with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, the resulting frames showcased a shallow depth of field that retained the grit and persona of every subject. This technical approach mirrored our automotive work where we prioritize “real motion” over digital simulation.

Results
The project resulted in an initial “Hero” series of four portraits, which was later expanded into a second collection of 6 full-length environmental character studies. These high-end retouched portraits were deployed across SPM’s digital channels as a promotional showcase of our creative versatility.
The response was immediate and highly positive. We saw a significant spike in digital engagement from both the automotive community and the wider media production industry. By taking full creative control, Seagram Pearce Media successfully demonstrated to prospective clients that our in-camera expertise results in an elevated, cinematic product that stands out in a saturated digital landscape. The participants expressed that the experience was transformative, seeing themselves as movie-grade characters through SPM’s lens.

The Seagram Pearce Media Difference
This project highlights SPM’s status as Lighting Fanatics. By solving complex visual problems with real-world practical lighting rather than digitally, we provide an authenticity that feels real and grounded. Whether we are shooting a supercar at 120km/h or a Jedi in a studio, our commitment to technical excellence and cultural nuance ensures a world-class result.
