The Challenge: Automotive Photography for Two Markets

The Challenge: Two Cars, Two Markets, One Vision
When Volkswagen Saudi Arabia embarked on the simultaneous launch of the all-new Passat and Jetta sedans, they faced a complex creative challenge. Working alongside their lead agency, they needed a stills campaign that would complement their TV commercial while highlighting distinct vehicle features across two culturally nuanced markets: Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the broader Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The brief demanded more than traditional automotive photography. With a sibling rivalry narrative at its heart, the campaign required translating the animated emotion of television into powerful static storytelling, all while maintaining cultural authenticity and VW’s premium positioning.

Strategic Approach: Cultural Intelligence Meets Creative Partnership
Seagram Pearce Media’s role extended far beyond execution. While the TV commercial could rely on motion and dialogue to convey the playful sibling dynamic, our challenge was capturing that same emotional resonance in single frames that would work across print, digital, and outdoor applications.
Understanding the cultural nuances between KSA and GCC markets became paramount. We developed a sophisticated dual-track production approach, shooting parallel versions of every scene with separate talent and culturally appropriate wardrobes. This wasn’t simply about costume changes. It required deep sensitivity to how family interactions and lifestyle aspirations are portrayed differently across these markets.
Our creative partnership with VW’s agency meant taking calculated risks. When we identified opportunities for additional hero frames to strengthen both the product story and the emotional narrative, we captured them on our own initiative. These breakthrough moments ultimately became valued additions to the final campaign selection.

Technical Mastery: Conquering the Saudi Sun
Over three intensive days across Saudi Arabia, from a traditional villa location to Riyadh’s modern financial district, we orchestrated what can only be described as logistical ballet. The production scope was ambitious: 25+ shot setups spanning beauty shots, lifestyle moments, interior features, and storytelling scenes, with each setup requiring two vehicles and two sets of talent.
At Seagram Pearce Media, we are absolute fanatics about lighting. The brief called for a cinematic palette ranging from dark blues to earth tones with accentuated amber warm light contrasted by cool shadows. To achieve this vision in Saudi Arabia’s harsh environment, we employed a three-pronged approach: capturing pristine golden-hour shots early in the morning before the film crew began, shooting complementary evening scenes, and deploying massive 20×20 diffusion frames during midday to transform the unforgiving desert sun into controlled, sculptural light.

Seamless Tandem Production
Working alongside a film crew required military precision. This is something we’ve perfected over 18 years of global working experience. We strategically positioned ourselves at complementary angles, allowing both teams to work simultaneously without disruption. During film resets, we seamlessly pulled talent for dedicated stills moments, keeping them in character to maintain the authentic sibling rivalry that made the campaign compelling.
This fluid orchestration ensured that even under high-pressure conditions, the set remained calm and the creative process felt effortless for everyone involved.
Results: Excellence Delivered and Exceeded
We delivered 25 meticulously retouched images spanning rational beauty shots, emotional lifestyle moments, and detailed product photography. Each frame maintained VW’s premium positioning while authentically representing Middle Eastern family life and aspirations.
Beyond meeting the brief, our additional creative frames demonstrated the value of true partnership over mere execution. When presented to the agency and client, these weren’t just approved; they became campaign highlights.
